Important info from VIAHA about Tryouts / Identification camps for Spring Hockey
MEMORANDUM (Original PDF)
November 27, 2025
TO: MHA Presidents
FROM: Al McCulloch, VIAHA President
SUBJECT: Spring Teams
Some of our Minor Hockey Associations have been asked if players are permitted to participate in tryout or identification camps for Spring Hockey teams if these camps take place over the Christmas Break or at other times during the course of the Minor Hockey season.
While the Spring programs may not be sanctioned by Hockey Canada the league play for these programs does not occur until after our Minor Hockey season concludes so players taking part in tryouts or ID camps will not face consequences under the BC Hockey non-sanctioned team policy. Players are reminded that if these camps conflict with their own team’s activities they have an obligation to prioritize their own team’s activities.
Parents should be aware that the Hockey Canada Insurance policy does not extend to these activities and they should contact those operating the program if they want information on what types of insurance coverage is available.
Should you have any additional questions you can contact me or VIAHA staff: info@viaha.org or 250-751-8811
Yours sincerely,
Al McCulloch
VIAHA President
