Brave Award  - Sponsored by: Team J.A.C.K. & Jack Westhaver (Journey Against Cancer and Kids)

3 weeks shy of his 6th birthday, Jack Westhaver was diagnosed with ALL: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Just hours before his diagnosis he was playing hockey, something he loved to do and something he was able to continue to enjoy thanks to the support of his community.  Although most of Jack’s 2009-2010 season was spent in the hospital and away from the rink, we know that this award inspired Jack every time he was able to go to the rink and give it a try!  The ‘first’ #1 Brave Award was presented to Jack’s family on April 3rd of 2009 as Jack was unable to attend the SMHA awards banquet due to his intensive treatment plan.  As sick as he was at the time, this award brought Jack to his feet and kept the ‘brave’ in him strong!  Today Jack is well and enjoying his favorite pastime…the game of hockey. This award is presented to a player who has been faced with adversity, challenge, illness or injury who shares Jack’s love of hockey.
