VIAHA Reminder about participation in non-sanctioned leagues
MEMORANDUM
July 30, 2025
TO: VIAHA Membership
FROM: Galen Brewer, Vice President Island League
COPY: VIAHA Officers and Staff
SUBJECT: Participation in Non-Sanctioned Leagues
All members of VIAHA are reminded of the policies of VIAHA and BC Hockey with regard to participation in non-sanctioned hockey teams or leagues. Any individual who participates in a non- sanctioned game after September 30th of the current season will not be eligible for any BC Hockey sanctioned programs, games or league play for the remainder of the season. There is a process to apply for reinstatement which requires the consent of BC Hockey and the support of the District and the MHA.
Participating in tryouts for a non-sanctioned team prior to the cutoff date of September 30th could result in the individual not being considered for a competitive team in their home MHA, should they choose to return. The individual may have missed team tryouts which may be a pre-requisite to being on this team, the team may have been already selected following tryouts and there is no position available, or the MHA’s registration may be waitlisted resulting in no room in the MHA for the individual on any team in the MHA.
An individual who participates with a non-sanctioned team after the cutoff date and is released or chooses to leave that team could face restrictions from returning to their home MHA for the same reasons even if BC Hockey should agree to reinstatement.
Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Yours sincerely,
Galen Brewer.
