VMHA FEE SUMMARY

VMHA offers a Recreational program and competitive (U11 Development, U13-U18 Representative) programs. Upon initial registration, all players are charged the same registration fee to play hockey as a Victoria Admiral.

Registration fees, plus an annual BC Government Gaming Grant, cover the costs to operate a hockey association, including:

  • Registering players with VIAHA and BC Hockey
  • Insurance
  • Consumables (new pucks, new jerseys, new socks, new training aids, awards)
  • Coaching programs (membership to coaching resources, mentorship programs, coaching seminars)
  • Base amount of ice-time per player*, roughly equivalent to:
    • one practice per week (duration varies between 45-60 minutes for recreational teams, with an effort made to rotate the longer slots evenly over the season)
    • one 80-minute home game every other week week (including cost of referees)
  • Player development program, which includes additional ice and/or hired coaches

Recreational teams will typically have two ice slots per week with one practice and home/away games alternating each weekend. In addition, extra ice is often offered to teams on a first-come first serve basis throughout the season.

REGISTRATION FEES MUST BE PAID BY AUGUST 1.

  • Fees must be paid by the deadline to be a member in good standing.
  • Members not in good standing may be denied the right to participate in practices and/or games until the fee is paid in full.
  • In addition, VMHA may charge a late fee on the outstanding balance.

Additional fees:

Players who play on, or wish to play on, Competitive Teams that Represent VMHA (U13-U18 Rep Teams and U11 Development Teams) pay additional fees:

Assessment Fees, which cover:

  • the cost of the additional ice required for the assessment process
  • external assessors and independent tryout staff
  • officials for assessment games

After the assessment process is completed, the players that qualify for the development and representative (rep) programs will be billed “Rep Fees”.  Rep fees are intended to cover the additional combined costs associated with the rep program and are not broken down by team or division.

Rep fees, which cover:

  • paid, non-parent, coaches
  • two practices per week
  • additional home game ice slots on weekends
  • longer ice slots for games (110-minute game slots) with an ice clean
  • additional officiating (more games, higher wages, additional refs)
  • dryland training allowance
  • VIAHA carding fees
  • BC Hockey carding fees

U11 Development fees, which cover:

  • two practices per week
  • 1 bi-weekly game slot (80-minutes)
  • VIAHA carding fees

The VMHA Board assesses each upcoming season's fees based on past years' financial performance and projected programs for the upcoming year.

Fees are non-refundable, except as specified in the refund policy.

Members are not returned money in years where revenues exceed expenses, and members will not be asked to cover deficits in years where expenses exceed revenues.

In years of surplus, the funds are carried over to the next year to help offset future costs, cover risks of the Gaming Grant not being provided, and fund new programs/initiatives that will benefit all VHMA members.

*Assigned ice slots vary and include (but are not limited to) 5am-9pm ice slots depending on the age groups. Weekday ice slots can start as early as 5am in the morning and immediately after school at 3:45pm.
