Now that our Return to Play plan is approved, we are gearing up for the official start to the hockey season on September 8. We will be communicating in the next week with families registered for representative and recreation programs with an overview of what the season start will look like.
Friend Requests!
Consistent with last season, VMHA will be accepting one friend request for each player for the coming season. While we cannot guarantee placement on the same team, we will prioritize all reciprocal (mutual) friend requests, which is where both families have requested that their players be placed together. These requests receive priority because we can be confident both families are interested in their players being teammates.

Please remember that if and when games are able to proceed, the association is required to ice balanced recreational teams. Balancing teams is therefore not only our primary objective, but our obligation. For those families who have players registered in the representative program, you are still able to submit friend requests that would be considered in the event that your player is not placed on a representative team.To submit a friend request for the coming season, please complete this form (also available on the VMHA website):

The deadline to submit your friend request is Friday, August 28, 2020.

Call for volunteers!
To prepare for the upcoming season we are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help with the following roles:

  • Recreation Division Coordinators — this role assists in the formation of teams at the start of the season, disseminates information to managers and coaches in their respective division, answers questions throughout the season and connects managers with Board members when needed. We are in need of coordinators at the U15, U13 and U9 age groups. Please contact Tyler Nyvall at
  • Team Safety staff — team safety’s will have additional responsibilities this year, so we want to encourage each team to have more than one safety to help out. If you are interested in taking on this role, and want to know more about what is involved, contact Katie Bernardo at
Return to Play Safety Meetings
We hosted two well-attended Return to Play Safety meetings on August 11 and 13. Members had some great questions! We know we were not able to accommodate everyone who wanted to participate prior to the start of the Summer Development sessions. For those of you who have not yet attended a zoom meeting, you can attend our August 27 session, or you can visit the “2020/21 VMHA Return to Play” tab under “Resources” on the website (, where we have posted a recorded version of the August 13 meeting.
If you want to attend a summer development session you can watch the video as an alternative to attending a zoom meeting. Please ensure you have watched the video so you are familiar with all aspects of the return to play plan, and are prepared when you attend your development session. If you have questions you want answered, you can attend the August 27 meeting, or contact
Summer Development Sessions
Once you have attended a Return to Play safety meeting or watched the recording, your player can participate in one of our summer development sessions. Register for a session using the link below, or use the link on the website. Please remember each player is limited to only one session. We will be monitoring attendance, and will provide advance notice if we open up registration beyond one per player.
UPDATE: players can now register for up to 3 Summer Development Sessions
Stay tuned for further VMHA updates!
