On Wednesday evening, Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association (VIAHA) passed a motion for a district-wide policy that all team officials will require proof of double vaccination by November 22, 2021.

This includes:

  • coaches
  • on-ice volunteers
  • third party instructors
  • team managers
  • safety people
  • off-ice officials including scorekeepers and timekeepers, and
  • any other person who might have access to the dressing rooms

Here is what this means for our volunteers.

For any volunteer that is currently vaccinated, they will have until November 22 to provide proof of vaccination.

For any volunteer that is not currently vaccinated and chooses to proceed with getting vaccinated, they will have until November 22 to provide proof of vaccination.

For any volunteer that is not currently vaccinated and chooses not to get double vaccinated prior to November 22, they will be removed from the team roster and no longer able to participate as team staff.

For any volunteer who chooses not to provide proof of double vaccination by November 22, regardless of whether they are vaccinated, they will be removed from the team roster and no longer able to participate as team staff.

For those volunteering as scorekeepers and timekeepers, or for third-party instructors who are not on rosters, proof of vaccination will be required at the time of entry to the event (as it is for our spectators).
We know it has been a challenge to adapt to all the changing regulations at the start of our season. We want to acknowledge and thank all of our volunteers for everything they have done thus far, and appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as our safety committee creates a plan to implement this new policy.
